History: Payoh comes from the Malay word “paya” which means swamp. Toa Payoh is the Chinese equivalent of the Malay Paya Lebar which means “big swamp land”. Prior to 1960, the area was a huge residential colony. Toa Payoh New Town was built in 1970 and is the republic’s second satellite town after Queenstown.
Residential: Another residential area with lots of units to choose from. You can get almost everything in this area from your shopping to recreational needs. Toa Payoh is one of the most populated public housing estates in Singapore and is the closest estate to the city.
