- Taxis
Taxis, they are the kings of the road especially in tourists areas such as Kuta, Legian or Seminyak. They can in fact stop and turn second-naturedly. If you are on foot, they will occasionally honk at you from behind to let you know they are there just in case you need them. If you do need their service, first you have to check if the driver has freshly resetted the meter. Inform the driver if he is driving too fast. Most of them do speak and understand English. As for the cabs at the airport, most charge a standard rate so you just have to pay up front at the cashier.
- Bemos
Public transportation for locals. You can easily spot them at the corners of some main roads. You can see the destination for each bemo from the front or back window (eg: Kuta – Seminyak – Denpasar. This means the bemo will pass those areas). They might charge up to 10 times for foreigners. Not recommended. But if you insist, bargain to the half price range.
- Mini Buses
If you pay more attention, you might spot some small shacks along the main road or small alleys. You can find information about tourist sites from here. You can say that this service is part of the tour & travel agency but if you plan on going solo, you can just use transportation they provide, a small mini bus (approximately 12 people). Ask for departure time.
