Bob Marley lives! Well, at least his spirit does in Apache, renowned to be the only reggae bar in the Kuta area.
The reggae vibe is as real as it can get; dreadlocked enthusiasts chill out in this big island shack, with bamboo pillars and thatched roof. The bar is decked out in Rastafarian red, green, and yellow, with Marley's images all over.
Casual and laid-back, Apache's patrons are mostly Australian surfers and Japanese beach lovers clad in shorts and slippers. Come as you are and bring everyone along; entrance is free. Nothing special about the drinks, however; most patrons drink affordable Arak, a Balinese liquor.
Chill out to the bar's reggae grooves, which bring to mind evenings along the beach. Performances are consistently first rate; a band has had a loyal following for the past five years. With the catchy tunes, you can't help but sing “turn your lights down low…” and be in the mood for some good, good loving.
