Why Take Older Workers or Volunteers Seriously?
By: devorah Digg!

The population of the United States is aging, with the first of the Baby Boom generation entering retirement. Still, this is not a reason to panic or dismay. Older workers have many great contributions that they are able to make to your workforce or volunteer project.

Studies have shown that the greater an individual's experience, skills, competence, and involvement in the work, the less a person's productivity will decline with age.
Older workers often surpass younger volunteers on both skill and speed jobs.
Older workers had a lower rate of absenteeism, accidents and turnover than younger workers.

Older workers also may have additional characteristics that can especially help an organization.

Older workers are very good at:

â?¢ Teaching
â?¢ Coaching
â?¢ Counseling
â?¢ Craftwork
â?¢ Filling administrative positions
â?¢ Mentoring younger people

They possess an added maturity that gave provide new insights into problems. They are still vitally creative and can synthesize important information.

Older workers continue to be an asset to your organization, and vital contributing members of our society.
