Tucked in a secluded, yet busy corner of The Centrepoint, the Noodle Place Restaurant is a great place for a quick afternoon snack between shopping sprees, or a hearty meal with the family. Having occupied the premises for over 20 years, the restaurant has built up a good reputation and a stable clientele of locals and tourists alike.
The Vibe Noodle Place's décor is spacious, simple and functional. Designed with an open concept, diners can see the entire restaurant clearly, no matter where they are seated. Diners who prefer privacy and comforty can choose to sit on the sofa seats further in, while others can opt to be seated nearer to the corridor to ‘people-watch'.
The Food Noodle Place's signature dishes are the Hong Kong Styled Roasted Fare. The restaurant offers a wide range of roasted meat – Roast Chicken, Roast Pork, Soya Sauce Chicken, Steamed Chicken, Barbecued Pork, Barbecued Pork Spare Ribs ($9.50 each) and Roast Duck ($10.50). Can't make up your mind about which to eat? Try the Twin Mixed Roast Meat ($15.80), where you can choose two kinds of meat from the list. Pork lovers would be delighted to know that the restaurant also serves Roast Suckling Pig ($19).
The Roasted Meat is definitely a must-try when you visit Noodle Place, for each piece of meat is roasted to perfection with an extra crispy skin, yet keeping its meat moist and succulent.
Hong Kong cuisine is also incomplete without Wanton Noodles. Do try the Deep Fried and Steamed Shrimp Wanton Noodle ($8.50 Dry, $7.50 in soup) for the best of both worlds. The wanton contain fresh whole shrimps, wrapped with a generous portion of wanton skin. Though it is a simple dish served with noodles, vegetables and oyster sauce, each component is fresh and cooked just right, complementing each other perfectly in taste and texture.
The Black Pepper Beef Hor Fun ($9.80) is a good alternative for those who prefer their food with gravy. The serving for this dish is generous and would definitely fill up an empty stomach. Look forward to fragrant slices of beef served among smooth, slippery hor fun and black pepper sauce. The latter is rather mild, allowing the flavour of the beef to surface, instead of overpowering it, hence a winner for those who prefer non-spicy fare.
Those who prefer a lighter meal can try the Noodle Place Special Congee ($8) . Do not be fooled by its appearance, for the Congee packs a punch, with ingredients such as abalone, chicken, fish maw, pig liver, prawns, roast duck, jellyfish, cuttlefish, egg and meatballs. The variety of ingredients forms a unique and pleasant blend of aroma and flavour that you cannot find anywhere else. The Congee is comfortingly warm and thick, and would definitely leave diners satisfied.
Diners visiting the restaurant in larger groups might want to order a couple of dishes to share amongst themselves. A good choice would be the Wasabi Mayo Prawn ($18). Fresh, large prawns are fried in a light batter first, before they are coated with a sauce made from wasabi and mayonnaise. This combination creates a curious, yet pleasant taste. Contrary to what many would think, the dish is rather sweet, with just a tinge of wasabi , definitely making it suitable for all ages.
For some greens to balance the meal, try the Mixed Vegetables with Bean Curd ($9) . Essentially a claypot dish, an assortment of vegetables, like carrot and broccoli as well as mushrooms, are cooked together in a sauce with large cubes of bean curd. The vegetables are cooked just right and retain a bit of crunch in them. The claypot is served with a mini stove to keep it warm (and perhaps for aesthetic purposes too) and would definitely go down well with most, if not all, diners.
The Service The restaurant feels like a Hong Kong style family eatery, and that is the feeling the staff give. Well-groomed, friendly and helpful, they make you feel at home and are more than willing to help out if you have any queries.
